An appeal to Comrades in India !!
It is with deep sadness that we are writing this appeal to you after the recent inhumane incident of rape and murder in Kolkata. This is surely a manifestation of the oppression of women that has been going on for thousands of years, however the reasons for such crimes are deep rooted in our society.
Patriarchy, which has been ingrained in society for thousands of years, and its reproductive cycle are mainly responsible for inhumane incidents like the rape and murder in Kolkata. Repeated occurrences of such criminal incidents makes it clear that gender violence is being widely reproduced in the society.
The facts explain the horror of rape and violence. According to a report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) of India, in 2022 alone, 4,45,256 complaints of "crime against women" were registered, of which 31,516 were rape cases. Talking about Nepal, there were 3552 rape complaints in 2021-22 only, out of which 4 people were killed after rape and 281 were cases of child sexual abuse. At first glance, these numbers may appear to be just "numbers". However, this is the ugly reality of the times we live in, which is ruining the lives of millions of people and adversely affecting the lives of billions of people.
The legal process and justice system play a crucial role in addressing such incidents. However, we often observe that, within this social structure, state laws work against the interests of common people. The deeply ingrained patriarchy in every aspect of society is preventing victims of sexual violence from fully participating in the judicial process.
Strong resistance is necessary in the face of injustice that we see from time to time. We appeal to you to raise the voice of this resistance. In addition, we would like to share with you our commitment to move forward by collaborating to solve our common problems caused by the deep-rooted patriarchy in our society.
However, as necessary as the resistance in response to those events are, those resistance are incomplete and insufficient in the struggle for social justice. Today, we need to organize our aggressions against patriarchy. The data mentioned above clearly shows how limited our reactions have been.Since voices of resistance are heard in only a few of the thousands of crimes, it is evident that these voices are not able to rebel against the reproduction cycle of inhumane activities caused by patriarchy. Hence, we strongly encourage all justful friends to proactively resist patriarchy.
At present, there is a constant effort being made to divert the attention of the common people from class and gender oppressions which are actually affecting the lives of the people. As a result, the deceptive and erroneous claim that “minority groups' behaviors and practices are the root issue in Indian society” is being forcefully propagated there. Amidst all this, we have utmost respect for the social and cultural diversity and the unity among the justful people that you have preserved, despite the destructive storm of the capitalist market-system in India. We deeply believe that, while raising the voice of protest and resistance as a movement against patriarchy as a whole, you comrades will not be distracted by the misleading and false propaganda going on there and this unity will remain intact.
At this time, The Dialectical Society appeals to the Indian comrades that:
Raise a powerful and organized voice against the patriarchy that is pushing society backward.
Express collective protest against the structure of the justice system that supports perpetrators by presenting a long list of legal loopholes.
Protest from your position on behalf of all the victims of crimes like rape and sexual violence.
Join us in the fight against all forms of gender-based oppressions.
In the end, we want to express our commitment to fight together with you in the fight against patriarchal oppression, which is not only in Indian and Nepali society, but in the whole world.
Down with patriarchy!!!
